vartec scam
I have sbc local telephone service since I live in the bermuda triangle and my cell doesn't work and also since mike refuses to use a cell. my bill's like $20 a month. incidentally my cell bill is like $40 a month. I get a bill from vartec communications for my home number for $54. um I'm gonna notice something like that. it looked like cell charges $39.95 for local service and $15 in taxes 'n stuff. I called sbc and they said I'd been switch to vartec. well switch me back. half an hour later I was done and I called vartec to let them know I wouldn't be paying the bill. the unintelligible chick said that I have vartec and owe them for their services. after I flew off the handle a little for not wanting their services, and never authorizing their services I was put on hold for half an hour while being transferred to another department where I could dispute the charges. the guy that finally came on said "a couple hundred people were accidentally switched over". mmm smells like scam to me. bitches.

DOOD... that is out of control! imagine if you didn't look at the bill and just paid it! what total assholes!
in spain, there is a problem with cancelling your services. they tell you they are cancelled and then they're not and they keep charging you (it's auto-deducted from your bank account - no one here pays by check). when we moved from our old flat, snake called the phone number on the bill to cancel out internet service. they told him it was cancelled and closed. you get a statement every 3 months, i think... so 3 months later, he notices he's still getting charged. the bank though can reclaim the money, so we do that and un-authorize anymore charges from the service provider. the service provider calls and yells at snake that he owes them money and he's like "i called the number on my bill and cancelled it" and they are like "you had two services, and that number was for one, you should have called another number to cancel the other" - but nowhere on the bill does it say you have to call 2 numbers, and both services were listed on the same bill. snake tries to explain to the woman very calmly that say he did have to call two numbers, shouldn't it 1) say it on the bill, and 2) shouldn't the woman representing their company have informed him that one service was cancelled and to cancel the other, call this other number? instead the woman told him both things were cancelled and when he asked her to confirm it again, she reassured him. i heard him over and over saying this to the woman that called to tell us to pay. the woman ends up yelling and screaming at him (seriously) on the phone and eventually hung up on him. bastards!
one time when i was a receptionist, i got an old lady calling saying she wanted to know what the number was because she had an expensive phone call to this number on her phone bill and she didn't recognize the number. i guess the phone company stuck it on. phone companies are the WORST.
even if we could get a fixed phone put in (for some reason, the phone company doesn't provide service to our building... but all the buildings around us have phone service - go figure), we wouldn't out of principal. they are low down dirty bastards!

the receptionist was telling me of another scam where people would call up your business and ask you for the serial number on your copy machine and then send you all this expensive ink cartridges and toner that you couldn't return so after awhile she'd recognize the scam and say sure 1 second, put them on hold and then come back on the phone and say, so, what are you wearing? they'd hang up, awesome!
