kamikaze dog

sunday morning I got up bright and early to take bailey with me to work. she was sitting in the passenger seat with her head out the window for the first time since she'd only been in the van before when all of a sudden she started to put her paws on the door. I thought this is a bad idea, she has horrible balance in the car, no way do I want her to fall out when OUT SHE JUMPS.

I look out the window and she's looking at me skidding along the ground on her side. I open the door and call her thinking she might just jump back in when she runs away, up the street and eventually over to the sidewalk. I leave my car in the middle of the road and run after her. once we're both on the sidewalk she turns around and comes to me. I scoop her up and put her back in the car totally in shock. we get to work, she drinks some soy milk, I do some work, I get the email from gary baseman that blows my mind and we're ready to go. driving back this time I have the window alternating between cracked and closed when I notice she's got a big cut on her back knee. then I noticed a patch of blood under her collar. we get home and I get out the bactine and notice all four paws are scraped, a spot under her chin and other various areas got skinned. I tried to wrap her up like a race horse but she licked off all the bandages and in some places all the blood entirely. she was wagging her tail, running and eating so I guess she's ok but I still can't stop seeing it happen over and over and over. it really did feel like slow motion especially my response time, I'm so lucky there were no cars around. I'm pretty sure I'm more traumatized than she is. Posted by nanapodes at May 24, 2004 3:04 PM
