hellboy: the movie

where to start! how hellboy looked: surprisingly good. although in one scene his right hand of doom was on his left hand. oops. and his tail looked like a hotdog.

guillermo del toro as a director: his vision must have been to bring the comic book pages to life: success

guillermo del toro as a screenwriter: his vision must have been to put the comic book pages on screen: success

but comics don't work as movies, you can't just string little episodes together and expect the movie to have momentum. although there were action scenes, it wasn't an action movie. knowing the comic is almost the only way to appreciate what del toro was trying to do.

mike said he knew just as much/little about the xmen going into it but enjoyed it so much more. better screenplay.

best scene: the subway "nod" to the matrix

last words: the monsters were incredible, HP Lovecraft would have been proud Posted by nanapodes at April 8, 2004 11:26 AM

I agree with your review. I thought it was shot really well. Every scene looked beautiful and grand. It was a little lacking in the plot/excitement department. Once I figured out that the entire moving was going to be Hellboy fighting those monster-dog things over and over, I kind of checked out. I thought the two bad guys were pretty rad, though, and I wish they would have utilized them more. And Abe Sapien. He was cool, but underused. All in all, it was pretty enjoyable, but not freaking awesome. Better than LXG and Daredevil!! But, I guess that's not saying much.

aw that was a shame about LXG wasn't it? and I don't care what anybody says, I liked the avengers!

Mike liked Xmen? wooooh! smoking some shit! (or this movie is REALLY REALLY bad). Bitch.

XMEN... not XMEN 2.

(i'm guessing)

xmen was a bad movie? what am I missing?

Posted by: sugi_grl at April 13, 2004 5:40 AM

What are you missing? Well, it is just MY opinion. CAN I HAVE A FUCKING OPINION? WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?!?! Anyhow, I used to dig the comics before commiting fully to porn, and I thought it blew. No action and pussy shit all over. Come on, wolverine had to kick WAY more ass than that. And where are his yellow tights?

well if you thought xmen had no action, do NOT see hellboy

i thought spiderman was phenomenal, i can't wait for the spiderman 2 to hit the screens. you didn't think it was up to par w/ the comics? i thought stan lee helped w/ the screenplay and was pleased w/ the final outcome/...

well if we're talking fav comic book movie, batman forever ;)

and the crow

Posted by: sugigrl at April 13, 2004 11:10 AM

Well, see? I though Spiderman was OK too. I thought Peter Parker was a bit of a whimp, but at least I found the action was pretty good. Batman movies OK, but I always thought Batman was too gay, with that mask and all. His only power was wealth.... bah!
And the Hulk: The worst comic movie ever.... the only thing good was the 'Hulk' dogs.... that's when I thought I had seen it all. I stopped the movie and went get drunk.
