spartan
as promised to bp, we saw spartan last night and here's where I say what I thought about it! I thought it was an excellent movie, a political thriller that runs deeper than the general's daughter, one of the most suspenseful movies from beginning to end I've ever seen (had a little trouble getting to sleep I was so pumped), and all around good acting by a well cast group: val, macy, ed o'neill, derek luke, and tia texada. this is actually the first mamet film I've ever seen, hearing of him for the first time only because we were making fun of the dialogue in the tv spots for identity ("we couldn't get out! because of the storm! because of the storm! we couldn't get out!") and it was explained to me that mamet writes the way people really talk which doesn't sound that good, or at least not the way we are used to hearing dialogue. that having been said, I thought the dialogue was perfectly accessible, building plot and characters at the same time. really, no complaints. if I had to be nitpicky tho, tia, a military person (since I can't remember her rank), always had perfect makeup. heh. what's not to love? :)
