hellboy, my latest obsession

after splurging like crazy yesterday and getting myself the tim biskup helper AND the roman dirge halfsies (which I ended up getting on ebay because they were all gone from the stores they were to be sold at including hot topic where the girl who answered the phone said in the most extreme valley girl accent I have ever heard, joking or not, oh-my-gawd I TOTALLAY know what you're talking abooout! no we don't have them.) I started surfing for hellboy toys! and why not heh heh. a quick search turned up action figures of varying detail based on ron pearlman's likeness (whatever) but only the following based on the likeness of the incredibly drawn comic: released in 2001 limited edition (750) resin nodder head sculpted by Beverly Gilroy and designed by Mike Mignola and this playmobil set. cool right? don't get your hopes up and try to get one, it's not on ebay, there's only one belonging now and deservedly so to creator Mike Mignola. made by this guy in sweden who painstakingly made them from existing playmobil pieces. so cool.

Posted by: sugigrl at March 19, 2004 03:41 PMHey Jen,
Heard you've got some nasty movies lined up...I'm telling you, DO NOT go see Secret Window. Bad movie. Also, I hear Fahy's dragging you out to Spartan. I'm telling you, Jen, one of the worst movies I've seen in years. Me and Jonny were soooooo in hate with that movie. And, we LOVE Kilmer, Mamet, and H. Macy. Unspeakably horrible! Don't do it Fahy-Rochas!!! Don't do it!
hmm well I can skip secret window, but I must say I'm intrigued by spartan cause I really respect jim's opinion when he said it had smart dialogue and enough plot to fill 10 films of that genre...
Posted by: sugigrl at March 22, 2004 03:29 PMNo offense to Jim at all, but me and Jonny seriously thought the dialogue was laughable. It was the most forced, ridiculous attempt at "tough-guy" talk I've ever encountered in a movie. We kept looking at each other in the theater like, Is this for real? What planet is this taking place on? The plot was flimsy as all hell, and I couldn't care less about the characters. It's weird, because I looked at Jim's site, and it seems we have almost the exact same taste in every other movie out there. I just really thought Spartan was a joke of a film. I am curious to know what you and Michael think, though.
Posted by: BP at March 22, 2004 03:50 PMBy the way, is Michael interested in seeing Hellboy? Me and Jonny want to see it. Maybe we can all go together once it comes out. I hope it's goooood.....
Posted by: BParbs at March 22, 2004 04:05 PMpete's the one that gave it 4 stars, jim is just a guy that liked it who interestingly said "I don't remember any of the tough guy talk so I can't confirm or deny. I certainly don't see what's flimsy about the plot. holds together fine imo. and not caring about the characters comes pretty naturally from disliking the film." heh I can't wait to see it! I'll make a fresh post so we can all go back and forth on it ;)
Posted by: sugigrl at March 22, 2004 04:08 PMas for hellboy, I'm pretty nervous: directed by a pretty inexperienced guy who did mimic and blade II, and written by him (mimic) and another inexperienced guy who wrote predator v. alien... the trailer looks decent but so did matrix reloaded
Posted by: sugigrl at March 22, 2004 04:41 PMOh, my bad about Pete and Jim. Confused dummy I am. Anyway, I just thought that Val's character was all the hell over the place. It seemed like he changed personalities half way through and all of a sudden started calling everyone "baby." Anyway, I want you to see it so we can talk it over. I wish you hadn't heard good things from Jim or bad things from me and were seeing it fresh. Post first thing so I can see what you think! But, as far as not caring about the characters, I would disagree that that comes from not liking the movie. I love Kilmer and generally have a soft spot for kidnapped women. I, in fact, did not give two shits about anyone in this film because they didn't seem realistic in any sense of the word. Anyway, just post your thoughts tomorrow, li'l philly!! Love, B
Posted by: BParbs at March 22, 2004 05:32 PMThis review expresses prettly deftly how I felt about the movie.... (Am I beating a dead horse? Sorry...)
